Five reasons why you should vote for Bunhill 2 Energy Centre

Bunhill 2 Energy Centre in Islington has been shortlisted for two New London Awards and a Dezeen Award. Both awards include a public vote allowing you to choose your favourite project. We’ve listed five reasons why we think you should vote for Bunhill 2:

  1. It is the first scheme in the world to re-use waste heat from the London Underground train network.

  2. It provides lower cost, greener heat to local homes businesses, schools and leisure centres.

  3. It provides a blueprint for decarbonising heat in potential future schemes in London and around the world, making cities more self-sufficient in energy to become zero carbon.

  4. It provides a contextual response to the local community with artwork panels by Toby Paterson tessellating across the base.

  5. It celebrates the necessary, expressing a language of civic industrial architecture that could begin to define this new typology of heat network.

And if that doesn’t convince you, take a look at this fantastic film starring Moreland Primary School students (one of the schools to benefit from Bunhill 2), explaining how the new technology works.

Delivered in collaboration with McGurk Architects, Bunhill 2 began operating in March this year. The project has been shortlisted in the Infrastructure category for the Dezeen Awards and the Moving category and the Environmental Prize in the New London Awards. Bunhill 2 has also been shortlisted for a 2020 Blueprint Award and RIAI Award.
