Sam Crow

Architectural Apprentice

Sam is a Level 7 Architectural Apprentice at Cullinan Studio, studying at the University of Cambridge. He joined the practice in 2022 and returned in 2024 after a year spent travelling and volunteering on farming and building projects.

His experience spans feasibility and community engagement through to technical design and construction. He uses hand drawing to make design options accessible, helping clients and communities contribute to decisions. At Marlborough Sports Garden for Bankside Open Spaces Trust (BOST), he explores how circular economy principles can support the development of a valued community space.

His background as a CAD technician in manufacturing informs a practical understanding of construction, which he brings to BIM and drawing coordination. His interests in retrofit, material reuse and embodied carbon measurement underpin an approach centred on making more of existing resources.

His academic research examines community-led housing and residents’ capacity to shape homes as their needs change. Within the studio, he coordinates the weekly CPD programme, supporting shared learning across the practice.

Sam sees architecture as a social act: a resourceful, collaborative process shaped by the people who use it and the places it belongs to.
