Maitland Park Opens Doors for Open House 2025
Last week Cullinan Studio and Camden Council co-hosted tours of the award-winning Maitland Park Estate Redevelopment for Open House Festival 2025. Visitors were invited inside occupied flats, shared spaces and landscaped gardens, offering a rare chance to see how the new homes and community facilities are being used day-to-day. We extend our thanks to residents for their generosity in welcoming guests and sharing their experiences of living in the new developments.
The tours were a valuable opportunity for us to see how the infill developments and landscape have matured over time. It was inspiring to witness how residents and the wider community are using the courtyards, play areas and green spaces, and to learn from these lived experiences as we shape future projects.
Maitland Park exemplifies sustainable, community-centric design, setting new benchmarks for healthy living environments. Delivered through Camden Council’s Community Investment Programme (CIP) - a borough-wide initiative that reinvests in schools, homes and community facilities - the redevelopment has provided 119 new homes, a community hall and garden, all set within a revitalised parkland landscape. The new buildings offer a mix of social rented and private homes, designed to be fully accessible and adaptable, while bold landscaping enriches the mature central park at the heart of the estate.
Visitors shared thoughtful feedback:
“We all found the visit interesting and were impressed by the quality of finish and the generosity of the spaces. Some bold moves and a judicious use of the existing groundscape have created a lovely scheme that really sits well in the street.”
It was a pleasure to contribute to the Open House Festival. As a practice, we share its ethos of opening up architecture, making it accessible, and demonstrating how design can positively shape people’s lives.
